The Sickle Reality Behind the Sweet Tooth
Dr. Roshni Sundar
Abstract
In the modern world of science and medicine, there now seems to be an invisible pandemic of
hypo-aware hyper-control. There is a paradoxical co-existence in both patients and doctors to
effectively manage disease yet undertaking such counter-productive methods of efficacy. The
average Indian above 50 will either be pre-diabetic or diabetic, and resort to all the Western
routes of magical diets and injections, not realising the potential of true management and
healing. There is now an impelling necessity to recognise that though all doctors take a vow
of the Hippocratic Oath, the methods of management which are dispensed and taken up by
the patients, may carry a dangerous potential of unconscious harm. Western medicine does
not always apply to the Indian population and can do more harm than healing. This article
explores the bitter-sweet truth behind the sweet tooth.
