The Gift of Integral Yoga: New Birthing of Consciousness for an
Uplifting Rebirth

Abstract
Rebirth is a central concept in various spiritual traditions, including Celtic spirituality, Hinduism,
and Buddhism, each offering unique insights into the cyclical journey of life and death. While
Celtic beliefs emphasise rebirth as a process of renewal, aligned with cosmic harmony, Hinduism
and Buddhism view it as a means of karmic progression. However, Sri Aurobindo’s Integral Yoga
provides a distinctive perspective, integrating these views and elevating the concept by presenting
rebirth as a conscious evolutionary process that fosters the soul’s ascent to higher states of being.
This exploration highlights rebirth as a transformative path, aligning individual growth as ‘new-
birth’ with a greater spiritual purpose.
The philosophy of rebirth is intrinsic to
various religious and spiritual traditions such as
Hinduism, Celtic spirituality and Buddhism. Celtic
mythology, which embraces a cyclical ontological
phenomenon, emphasises rebirth, or ategenas,
as a form of regeneration and renewal where
individuals undergo deep transformation,
realising the interconnectedness of life. Celtic
deities, such as Cerridwen and the goddess
Brigid, offer guidance to individuals in
choosing their next life (1). Ancient Druidic
sources also suggest that a particular deity
could incarnate within a family lineage,
offering the newborn certain divine gifts
necessary for their spiritual evolution. This
belief shapes the Druidic understanding
of reincarnation. To the Celts, death is not
